The Wisconsin Dells area is home to millions of tourists every year. Attractions vary as widely as the visitors themselves and include opportunities for everyone’s favorite seasonal activities. Here are a few, all just minutes away from Durward’s Glen.

THE OUTDOORS

Devil's Lake State Park                         Baraboo                                                                                 (6 miles)
One of Wisconsin’s premiere natural vacation locations, Devil’s Lake State Park receives well over 1 million visitors annually. It is situated along the Ice Age Trail, providing breathtaking views from cliffs of 500 feet. There are miles of trails for hiking, climbing, mountain biking, and cross country skiing. The park also contains 2 large sandy beaches with swimming areas.

Parfrey's Glen Nature Trail                    Devil’s Lake State Park                                                     (4 miles)
A sister glen, Parfrey’s is within Devil’s Lake State Park just a few miles from Durward’s Glen. At a small parking area is the entrance to one of the most scenic nature trails of south central Wisconsin.

Devil's Head Golf and Ski Resort         Merrimac                                                                                 (4 miles)
The ultimate four season resort, Devil's Head offers a 36 hole golf course in the summer and 260 acres of skiing territory in the winter with 28 hills and 16 ski lifts. The resort also consists of excellent restaurants serving breakfast through dinner and a sports bar.

Baraboo Zoo and Park                         Baraboo                                                                              (13 miles)
The Ochsner Park & Zoo is also right in Baraboo. The 26 acre park has a two acre zoo, shelters and picnic grills, access to the Baraboo Riverwalk, restrooms and plenty of playing areas.

Cascade Mountain Ski Resort             Portage                                                                                 (9 miles)
160 acres of skiing territory offering 35 runs and 10 lifts. Just minutes from Durward’s Glen.

Lake Wisconsin Ferry                            Merrimac                                                                             (6 miles)
A free ferry shuttling WI 113 traffic between Sauk and Columbia counties. It operates 24/7 shuttling cars, bicycles, locals and tourists.

Hawkwind Adventure Challenge Course                                                                                          (0.5 miles)
One of the Midwest’s most scenic and diverse adventure courses, with personally and group tailored challenges for developing leadership, interdependence, and cooperative problem solving.

International Crane Foundation            Baraboo                                                                                 (20 miles)
The only place in the world where all 15 crane species can be seen. ICF is recognized as a world leader in endangered species conservation. ICF provides tours, exhibits and educational programs.

HISTORY AND MUSEUMS

Circus World Museum                         Baraboo                                                                                 (12 miles)
Circus World Museum is America's Circus Museum. It is located right here in Baraboo, Wisconsin at the site of the historic Ringling Brothers’ Circus Winter Quarters. It is open year round offering extensive exhibits, performances and events.

Indian Agency House                           Portage                                                                                   (14 miles)
The Historic Indian Agency house was built in 1832 for the US Government’s agent to the Ho-Chunk nation, John Harris Kinzie. John and his wife Juliette were grandparents of Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts. The house itself is furnished with antiques no later than 1833. The 233 acre property also forms part of the Ice Age Trail.

Fort Winnebago Surgeons Quarters, Portage                                                                                 (14 miles)
Built in 1824 by portaging businessman, Francis LeRoy, the Fort Winnebago Surgeons' Quarters is one of the oldest French Colonial log homes in Wisconsin. Surgeon's Quarters overlooks the site where Louis Joliet and Father Jacques Marquette left the Fox River at the east end of Wauona Trail in 1673. Open for tours from late spring through early autumn.

Mid Continent Railway Museum         North Freedom                                                                     (20 miles)
Mid-Continent live history museum and operating railroad. Established to preserve and re-present the Golden Age of Railroading this outdoor attraction offers rides on restored coaches from the late 1800’s, as well as exhibits of the memorable steam locomotives.

Ho-Chunk offers 24-hour slot machines, bingo, blackjack and other games year round.

Wollersheim Winery                                 Prairie du Sac                                                                     (27 miles)
Widely recognized as the Midwest’s leading winery, the Wollersheim winery sits on a scenic hillside overlooking the Wisconsin River. The winery is open year round with guided hourly tours that conclude with wine tasting.
